 1. The Need for Revelation by Barry Adams

Before I became a Christian at the age of 15, I had a knowledge of Jesus Christ. I probably would have said that He in fact did exist. But my knowledge of Him didn't change my life. It was only through a divine act of the Holy Spirit at just the right time that caused the windows of heaven to open up so that God could reveal His son to me.

It was revelation of the Lordship of Christ that caused me to become born again, not just an intellectual understanding that He existed. The Bible says that the demons acknowledge the existence of God and shudder (
James 2:19). The Bible even says in 1 Corinthians 8:1 that knowledge alone can be a dangerous thing because it can "puff us up". The only way that we are truly changed is by divine revelation.

When Jesus asked Peter who He was, Peter declared that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the Living God. In
Matthew 16:17 Jesus responds to Peter's declaration by saying... "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in Heaven.” (NIV) In John 6:44 Jesus also says "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent me draws him..." (NIV) It is clear from these Scriptures that it is the Father who reveals His Son by divine revelation.

Before I received a deeper revelation of the Fatherheart of God at a men's retreat in June 1998, I would have certainly acknowledged that God was indeed my Father. The Bible has so many references to God as Father that it would have been difficult for me not to acknowledge this. But even though I had a basic understanding of this truth, I really didn't have a deep heart revelation. I didn't relate to God as my Father. I saw Him more as the Father of all creation...but not my Dad.

But something happened in June 1998 that has forever changed my life. When Jack Winter ministered to me and prayed that God would reveal His Fatherheart, it was as if the heavens opened up and the Spirit of God bore witness with my spirit that I was really a son. All of my knowledge of God as Father was now re-affirmed by revelation. In just a few moments time, I received a much deeper knowing within my heart that God was truly my Abba. The emotional barriers and misconceptions that I had towards God were now cleared out of the way. I knew that I knew that I was finally home in the Father's love.

I wanted to share this because sometimes our knowledge of the Father's love can be a stumbling block to actually receiving a revelation of the Father's love. We can read all the books, go to all the conferences and memorize all the scriptures that deal with the Fatherheart of God and yet still lack a deep heart revelation that God is really our Father. In my travels, I have had the opportunity to meet many dear people who claimed to have this message down pat, and yet still seemed to miss an intimate relationship with the Father.

Sometimes the knowledge of this message can prevent us from going deeper into relationship with God because we think that we have already attained everything we need. The Father's love message is not just one more teaching added on to a collection of other wonderful teachings. It is the very foundation of our relationship with God the Father and God the Son through God the Holy Spirit. The revelation of the Father's love is not a one time event, but is a life-long process where we continue to go deeper, and higher and wider into God's incredible, astounding amazing love (Ephesians 3:16-20)

My encouragement is that you would continue to ask God for more revelation of this truth. Knowledge is good and necessary, but is only helpful when it is accompanied by divine revelation. And God wants to impart more revelation of His Fatherheart to you. The following Scriptures demonstrate that both
Jesus and the Holy Spirit also reveal the Father to us.

Matthew 11:27 "All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him." (NIV)

Romans 8:15-16 ”For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry "Abba, Father." The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children."

My prayer today (for you and for me) is the same prayer that the Apostle Paul prayed for the Church in
Ephesus...Ephesians 1:17 “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.” (NIV)

If you are interested in receiving personal ministry, Dennis & Michelle Marchand minister in both Father Heart and Theophostics in Antrim, NH. They also travel every week to Hartford, VT and to Pepperell, MA where they take appointments. I highly recommend them as they have really helped me and many others to get freed up within themselves, in their personal relationships and their relationship with God.
